TOP FIVE HIGHEST GROSSING PHILIPPINE LOCAL FILMS OF ALL TIME

It is very interesting to know that during the late 50's Philippine Cinema is considered as one of the biggest movie industries in the world. Even though film making started in the late 19th century, the 1950s era in was labeled as the first Golden age era in the history of Philippine Cinema. During this time, the industry was considered as one of the busiest and bustling film communities in Asia. The industry used to produced an average of 350 films per year which makes it the second to Japan in terms of annual film production. The success of Philippine cinema continued to rise until the early years in 20th century but started to decline during the 1980s up to the present due to an extreme competition with foreign films. The indie films started to emerged though but it was in the year 2009 when box office local films has surged. These films are the first Filipino movies to breach the 200 million peso mark. Listed below are five of the highest grossing local films in Philippine Cinema as of the second quarter of 2013.
