So you've probably heard about the new Sailor Moon series huh? It is no longer a rumor and in fact, they just released a new trailer showcasing the new designs of sailor scouts. Of all the Magical Girl Anime genre, Sailor Moon is undeniably the legacy which influenced a lot of anime we have today including Magic Knight Rayearth, Cardcaptor Sakura, Pretty Cure , Puella Magi Madoka Magica and more. If you grew up in 90's then you should know that Sailor Moon is one of the anime series who invaded not just Japan but earned a world wide recognition, was dubbed in many different languages and more. It was a successful franchise indeed and before we witness the worldwide premiere of the "Sailor Moon Crystal" this coming July 5, allow me to give you five weird and funny facts about this iconic anime.

"THE THEME SONG IS SO ADDICTIVE"

Before "Let It Go" invaded our head, kids from 90's and early 2000s were once addicted to Sailor Moon's iconic theme song whether it is in Japanese or the translated version of your country. The theme song I am referring to is the "Moonlight Densetsu". It was used for all the four seasons of Sailor Moon (and technically the fifth one since they brought the theme song back during its final episode). I'm sure you can never forget the lyrics ♪♪Fighting Evil By Moonlight, Winning Love by Day Light♪♪ or maybe you sang the tune in your very own personal interpretation. LOL

"SAILORMOON IS THE STRONGEST, IS SHE?"

Yes, she is probably the strongest sailor scout of them all not until she realized her true potential. She is the one giving the final blow to destroy the enemy but she cannot do that on her own without being harmed or without putting herself in such critical situation first. I think at least 85 to 90 percent of her battles, she is always being saved by no other than Tuxedo Mask. Maybe if we took Tuxedo Mask out of the picture Usagi is probably dead by now. It is also not surprising why her fellow sailor scouts died several times (Sailor Moon Dark Kingdom Arc and Sailor Stars) before Sailor Moon unleashed her true power to defeat Queen Beryl and Sailor Galaxia.

"HEROES AND THEIR ALTER EGOS ARE BARELY RECOGNIZABLE? "

Naoko Takeuchi is probably a big fan of Superman even before she created Sailor Moon. Well, Sailor Moon has this "Superman syndrome" which makes heroes and their respective alter-egos barely recognizable. People in this anime can hardly tell the people behind the Sailor Warriors for some weird reasons. Actually, the only difference between the Sailor Warriors and their Alter-egos are their make ups and accessories and also their sailor uniforms become a little sexier and shorter but other than that, even a toddler can tell that they are exactly the same people. 

 TOP 2 WEIRD FACT ABOUT SAILOR MOON

"THE REAL SCORE BETWEEN SAILOR URANUS AND SAILOR NEPTUNE "

These two characters from the anime has been the center of controversy and only the manga avd readers can tell what's exactly the real score between Sailor Uranus (Haruka Tenoh) and Sailor Neptune (Michiru Kaioh). The controversy about them started when they are both introduced in the American dubbed series as cousins but they don't act like one. There were scenes where Haruka kisses Michiru with full of affection and their closeness are simply weird for cousins too. In an anime with largely female casts, relationship between girls were inevitable and it just so happened that Japan is more open about portraying homsexuality for children than many countries in the west. Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune were actually a couple. Another disturbing facts in this anime is the obviously incestuous relationship  between Sailor Moon, Tuxedo Mask and Chibi moon. So weird indeed.

"DOES MAKE UP, MAKE SENSE? "

Oh no! The enemies were here and my friends were in danger! I need to save them! BUT first, give me 2 minutes to state my magical chants, another 5 minutes to have my make up done and another 5 minutes to complete my gorgeous costume. (they're actually changing their school sailor uniform into sailor uniforms as well). Well, that's a typical scenario in Sailor Moon. In reality, the enemies will grab that opportunity to kill you while you're doing the transformation and your friends were already killed by then. So tell me, if Sailor moon and the rest of the Sailor scouts are getting their powers from their tiaras and wands, does putting make up make sense at all? Considering that these costumes doesn't make them an all new person.

Anyway, I have nothing against the series and the list above were only made for fun. I know Sailor Moon made most of your childhood days colorful so what do you think about the upcoming series? I have heard that it is not a reboot from the original anime but they will take everything inspired from the manga.

Anime is such a huge world filled with different kinds of characters with different kinds of behavior, skills, story and more. Some will showcase character with incredible powers while some will focus more on romance and fantasy. Some may even come up with a very unique approach. It's not really surprising if an anime came up with a theme focusing about cooking. Japanese Cuisine is undeniably very influential due to its world class quality, preparation and presentation. "RIN OKUMURA"

(AO MO EXORCIST)

He might be a son of one of the Demon Kings ~ Satan and he might be introduced as an expert exorcist who fights against evil, Rin Okumura has shown his cooking skills for not just one but many times during the anime and manga. Rin is the type of person who can be very protective, violent yet kindhearted. He also has a soft spot for animals too. Rin grew up a normal life and in his youth, he started to learn how to cook which eventually become his natural talent. He even got hired in a supermarket because of his skills in cooking. He is an amazing cook indeed and in fact, he used it in a cook-battle against the stove spirit Ukobach. He cooks frequently, and sometimes Yukio's admirers mistake his lunch boxes for the lunch boxes of another girl.

"AZUMA KAZUMA"

Azuma may not be an all around chef but his ability as a pastry chef is simply exceptional.  He is specializing in making delicious breads and other pastries and he is aiming to create his ultimate Ja-Pans (the term he used to name his creations). He is often being underestimated probably because of his young age and  lack of training but baking is a natural talent that Azuma possesses. To introduce his Ja-Pans globally, Azuma often joins prestigious competitions. Some of his unique and out of this world creations include the Mt Fuji Bread, the 324 Layers Croissant Bread, Wasabi Diner Bread, Green Turtle Bread, Black Japan, and a whole lot more.

"SANJI"

Sanji is a pirate and also the chef of Straw Hats with a bounty of 77,000,000. He is aiming to find the so-called All Blue a mystical sea of legend, rumored to be the only place in the world where the North, South, East, and West seas meet. In this legendary ocean, it is said that there are fish from each of the four seas, and to have such a resource at one's disposal is the ultimate dream of every chef. Considering that he is a pirate, Sanji's specialty are Sea Food dishes and of course, these dishes are not so ordinary because some of his recipe might include meats from giant sea monsters he caught himself. This is also the reason why he is using his legs in fighting rather than his hands since they are the most important parts in every chef.

"LUI MAO XING"

Lui Mao Xing is not a Japanese but he is considered as the best chef in China despite of his very young age. The story takes place in 19th century China during the Qing Dynasty, where the Emperor was weakened and the country was close to chaos. It is also during a fictitious era called "The Era of the Cooking Wars". It was an era in which top chefs with different cooking styles tried their best to improve their skills and to become the best chef in China. Lui Mao fight off against the Underground Cooking Society, an organized group which aims to control all of China through the cooking field. Even though he doesn't have much experience, Mao has the pride of a truly experienced chef and having learned from his mother that a chef's purpose is to create a dish that makes people happy, he always put his customers' needs first and is always able to make a creative dish that greatly satisfies them. A character of a true chef indeed. 

THE BEST CHEF IN ANIME

"KOMATSU"

(TORIKO)

He may not be the main character in the anime but Komatsu has proven a lot that makes him truly deserving in this top spot. Among all the chefs listed here, Komatsu is the only one who is a certified six star chef. He is Toriko's ever enthusiastic yet timid chef partner, who despite his weakness is greatly interested by what he finds in his travels with Toriko. As a result, he tries to overcome his fear and does his best to help. Toriko, by the way is more of a Gourmet Hunter rather than a sole chef. He is also currently the only chef to successfully recreate the Century Soup, a rare and high-class ingredient, considered one of the greatest soups in the world.
