The Kingdom of Thailand is a country in Southeast Asia. To its east lie Laos and Cambodia; to its south, the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia; and to its west, the Andaman Sea and Burma. Its capital and largest city is Bangkok.

Thailand enjoys a high level of literacy and education is provided by a well organized school system of kindergarten, primary, lower secondary and upper secondary schools, numerous vocational colleges, and universities. The private sector of education is well developed and significantly contributes to the overall provision of education which the government would not be able to meet through its own establishments. Education is compulsory up to and including Grade 9, and the government provides free education through to Grade 12.

According to the last census (2000) 95% of Thais are Buddhists of the Theravada tradition. Muslims are the second largest religious group in Thailand at 4.6%.

TOP 5 THING TO KNOW ABOUT THAILAND

"MUAY THAI OR KICK BOXING"

Muay Thai

Muay Thai has a long history in Thailand and is the country's national sport. Traditional Muay Thai practiced today varies significantly from the ancient art Muay Boran and uses kicks and punches in a ring with gloves similar to those used in Western boxing. Muay Thai is referred to as "The Science of Eight Limbs", as the hands, shins, elbows, and knees are all used extensively in this art. A master practitioner of Muay Thai thus has the ability to execute strikes using eight "points of contact," as opposed to "two points" (fists) in Western boxing and "four points" (fists, feet) used in the primarily sport-oriented forms of martial arts.
One of the most important traditions of Muay Thai is Wai Khru (Paying Respect to Teachers). In order to become a fully-fledged Muay Thai fighter, a person has to pass through a series of ceremonies.

The Royal Dragon in Bangkok, Thailand, can serve 5,000 customers at one time.
The world’s largest restaurant, as recorded in the 1992 Guinness Book of Records, serves more than 1,000 Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Western-style dishes. The 8.35-acre restaurant, which opened in 1991, employs 1,000 workers and has 5,000 seats. The kitchen staff is capable of turning out 3,000 dishes per hour. Because of the massive floor space, servers deliver food on roller skates; there is even a cable that permits servers to “fly” from one end of the restaurant to the other. In addition, guests are entertained each evening with Thai and Chinese dancers. National Restaurant Association Board member Kenneth Hill recently visited the Royal Dragon while on a trip to Thailand and Cambodia.

THE MOST WONDERFUL THING TO KNOW ABOUT THAILAND

" THE PHRA PATHOM CHEDI"

Chedi Phra Pathom

Phra Pathom Chedi is the highest stupa in the world with a height of 127 m. It is located in the town Nakhon Pathom, Thailand.

The name Phra Pathom Chedi means Holy chedi (stupa) of the beginning. The stupa at the location is first mentioned in scriptures of the year 675, however archaeological findings date a first stupa to the 4th century. In the 11th century it was overbuilt with a Khmer style prang, which was later overgrown by the jungle. The ruin was visited several times by the later King Mongkut during his time as a monk, and after his coronation he ordered the building of a new and more magnificent chedi at the site. After 17 years of construction it was finished in 1870, and the population of nearby Nakhon Chai Si was ordered to move to the newly created town around the chedi.

In 2005 the building was submitted to the UNESCO as a future world heritage site.
