TOP FIVE MOST COMMON MISINTERPRETATIONS ABOUT BLOGGING

It is so nice how everybody from my family, relatives , colleagues and friends address me as a blogger. I've been blogging for nearly six years now and I never get tired of it. I went through some ups and downs because I can barely update them due to my work but I am glad that I managed to bring myself back. I love to encourage my friends to make their own blogs too and I share all my experiences with them to motivate them more. It's just so nice to see someone from your neighborhood to start blogging and so that we can share some blogging related stuffs with each other. I used to bring up topics about blogging during our discussion but it always end up not exactly as I want it to be. People used to have these misinterpretations about blogging which also discourage them to start their own blog.

TOP FIVE MOST COMMON MISINTERPRETATIONS ABOUT BLOGGING
I used to approach them this way (above)..
and here's what I got in return (lists below).... and believe me, these are the things that I thought before i started blogging

TOP 5 MOST COMMON MISINTERPRETATIONS ABOUT BLOGGING
"NOT INTO WRITING"
I used to receive this answer from my friends but I would like to clarify that you don't have to be so poetic or a novelist in order to start your own blog. My grammars are pretty bad too but after reading my old posts way back in 2007 and 2008, i noticed a drastic improvement and that is something that I am really proud of. You can certainly write blogs using your own language but If you want to entertain foreign followers, then make it in English for them to understand. You don't need to write them perfectly and as long as it is understandable , it would be fine. After all, the message of your entry is what really matters most.

TOP 4 MOST COMMON MISINTERPRETATIONS ABOUT BLOGGING
"HACKERS AND SPAMMERS"
Since blogging will require you to make your own account and to submit some personal information including your email address, one of their most common concerns is their security. They always thought that after signing up for an account, all their personal information are at risk. They thought that hackers can hack their personal accounts such as their credit cards and more. Well first of all, you do not have any reasons to worry about especially if you are dealing with a highly credible and reliable web hosting site. Spammers, on the other hand are somehow uncontrollable but they can do nothing but to fill your comment section with their unrelavant comments but you can simply place all the comments into moderation to filter them. Oh that excludes me and the rest of the "Commenters slash Spammers" because we're just doing it all for fun. haha

TOP 3 MOST COMMON MISINTERPRETATIONS ABOUT BLOGGING
"NOT WILLING TO PAY"
Another common misinterpretations about blogging is when they thought that they have to pay first before they can start to blog. Well, yes, if you are willing to start a blog with your very own domain and web host, then you certainly need to pay for it but if you're not willing to, you can simply start your blog using the Free webhosting sites. We have several platforms to choose from such as Blogger, Wordpress, Live Journal, Tumblr and more. These websites will provide free services and this is what I'm using for the past six years. Some of my friends were afraid that once they started to build their own site, they will be billed for it and if they failed to pay their bills on time, they will be sued... LOL..

TOP 2 MOST COMMON MISINTERPRETATIONS ABOUT BLOGGING
"EARNING MONEY INSTANTLY"
Whenever i opened a topic about blogging, you know what part of it will makes them more interested? Well, that is when i mentioned about the fact that I am earning from my blogs. They will start to ask me how to make their own blogs and earn money instantly. I am not a professional blogger and I don't earn that much but I can say that earning from blogs cannot be attained easily. Whenever I tell them that your blog should be at least 3 to 4 months old before you can submit them to a blog advertising company, that's the part when they started to lose their interest. Blogging is not just about money. Yes, earnings will keep you more motivated but its all about your passion.

THE MOST COMMON MISINTERPRETATIONS ABOUT BLOGGING
"NOT A TECHIE"
Blogging is made for everyone even for those who are not techie like me. It is not about encoding, HTML's, PHP, and other relevant stuffs. As what i mentioned above, we have various free web hosting providers such as Blogger which makes it easier for us to deal with. They make it more manageable. Publishing entries are just clicks away and furnishing your template can be done by adding those ready made widgets and gadgets. It is not complicated at all. I started off from scratch too and I know nothing about these XML codes and all that stuff. I don't even know how to place a hyperlink but thanks to all my blogging friends who helped me a lot in making my blogs more appealing.

Happy blogging guys!

I'm bringing my blog to another level now that I already added some online advertising on it. Although I know I still have a long way to go before I could earn decent money from those ads. Honestly, I'm still a noobie in terms of online advertising and stuffs.

Thanks for this very informative post!
I agree with what you said on the 5th common misinterpretation. I had terrible grammar when I started my blog. After so many years of writing, I think that my grammar improved (I hope) and not only that, it helped me learn many things.

Alam ko ikaw maraming kinikita sa blogging. Ako minimal lang ang kita. Hehe...
Ow! Let me add about the issue of hacking in blogs. I think many people who you talked with have Facebook accounts. Hacking and phishing is more dangerous in Facebook than in blogging. Many people unwittingly post sensitive info in Facebook because it is a social website.

Bloggers on the hand can control info coming out on their blogs because they are the ones who control their blogs.
Wow! I didn't realise that you have blogged for so many years! xD
I am just barely 5 years old.
I met nice and mad bloggers along the way! So many blog wars and hatred amongst some evil bloggers....I have seen them all. B)
I definitely broadened my knowledge from blogging. It made me plan, think and use my brains before posting in my blog. Other bloggers taught me many valuable stuffs from their sharing! Bless them! <3
No doubt blogging takes away lots of our time but end of the day its worth it as learning is never ending.
first of all, THUMBS UP for this post!! it helps us "bloggers" to clarify all the misinterpretation and misunderstandings others have on us~~ KUDOS to Milton :)
"NOT INTO WRITING".. well, blogging isn't about writing, but it's all about sharing.. if they can facebook or tweet, i am sure they can blog too.. you don't need poetic and perfect language but as long as it's understandable, you are already sharing.. it's not difficult at all to upload few photos and write a few lines of words right?? :)
"HACKERS AND SPAMMERS".. well, unless you are super famous, nobody is interested in hacking you and spamming you!! agree?? and furthermore, you may blog anonymously and the blogging sites won't be asking you for very sensitive personal information.. so what's there to be afraid of?? afterall, FB is even more prone to hackers~~ :p
"NOT WILLING TO PAY".. well, haven't they seen there are millions of bloggers out there?? you pay for nothing to blog.. it's all free!! perhaps you can gain more than what you have paid for~~ :)
"EARNING MONEY INSTANTLY".. well for this group of people, i won't call they bloggers anymore but they are merely advertiser or reviewers for advertiser.. frankly, i blog genuinely to share and not thinking of earning extra cash.. :)
“NOT A TECHNIE".. well you don't really have to be a technie to blog, i would say blogging is so simple and everyone can do that.. and afterall, those who said so are always conservative and not forward looking.. technology is advancing everyday, and we have to learn and cope with the trend.. stepping your steps at the same point won't be something good.. :)
have a great day and happy blogging dude~~ :)
well i agree in everything you listed down here
those were indeed some of the misinterpretations about blogging
I often hear those in my friends

anyway I myself wasn't really a writing expert or something or even a techie person in fact i know nothing about html thingy hahaha but still i manage to do a blog
<3 <3
Great post BD.. and very true... newbies tend to think it's easy to make money from blogging but we old-timers know better hahaha, speaking of which.. I need new PBs! :)
Happy Thursday and happy blogging! <3
Im not a good writter too.. but hey! im a blogger now ! ^_^

very informative post :)
Oh! 6 years already? Longer than me already! I started blogging in 2008. And my interest in blogging continues to grow everyday! Yay!! :)
Oh yeah, some people think they can't write so they don't blog but how wrong they are! You don't have to know how to write to blog! In fact, I saw some blogs with maximum pictures and minimum words haha!
Scared of spammers? hahaha!! I spam you all the time!! But of course we are doing it for fun! :D
Yes, I have friends who asked how to earn money from blogs and they are interested to blog just for the money. Luckily, for me, making money is not my main aim, or I would have quit blogging long ago! :D
Having said that, the income from blogging is really something I'm grateful for - they do help in paying the bills and towards my travel expenses! But passion in blogging must definitely comes first. Maybe it's true when they say do the thing you love and the money will come :)
Not a techie? Haha!! That must really top it all! Cos I think most bloggers are no techies either! Hahaha!! Good post, Blue!! :)
