"MELAMINE CONTAMINATION IN CHINA"
The 2008 Chinese milk scandal involving milk and is a food safety incident in the People's Republic of Chinainfant formula, and other food materials and components, which had been adulterated with melamine. With China's wide range of export food products, the scandal has affected countries on all continents. In November China reported an estimated 300,000 victims have been claimed; six infants have died from kidney stones and other kidney damage, 860 babies still hospitalized.
Due to the many months before the scandal was exposed, media suggests that official figures are likely to be understated. Kidney stones in infants started being reported in several parts of China in the past two years. A number of yet to be officially acknowledged cases were reported on by the media. However, those deaths without an official verdict may be denied compensation. On 1 December, Xinhua reported that the Ministry of Health revised number of victims to more than 290,000 and 51,900 hospitalised; authorities acknowledged receiving reports of 11 suspected deaths from melamine contaminated milk powder from provinces, but officially confirmed 3 deaths

THE nineteenth deadliest earthquake of all time, the 2008 Sichuan earthquake or "Great Sichuan Earthquake", or most commonly in western reportage, the Chengdu quake, which measured at 8.0 Ms and 7.9 Mw occurred at 14:28:01.42 CST province of China and by any name killed at least 69,000 less than three months before China hosted the world in the on May 12, 2008 in Sichuan2008 Summer Olympics.
Official figures (as of July 21, 2008 12:00 CST) state that 69,227 are confirmed dead, including 68,636 in Sichuan province, and 374,176 injured, with 18,222 listed as missing.The earthquake left about 4.8 million people homeless,though the number could be as high as 11 million. Approximately 15 million people lived in the affected area. It was the deadliest earthquake to hit China since the 1976 Tangshan earthquake, which killed at least 240,000 people, and the strongest since the 1950 Chayu earthquake in the country, which registered at 8.5 on Richter magnitude scale.

World political leaders and national ministers of finance and central bank directors have coordinated their efforts to reduce fears but the crisis is ongoing and continues to change, evolving at the close of October into a currency crisis with investors transferring vast capital resources into stronger currencies such as the yen, the dollar and the Swiss franc, leading many emergent economies to seek aid from the International Monetary Fund. The crisis was triggered by the subprime mortgage crisis and is an acute phase of the financial crisis of 2007–2008.
